- While I can make no guarantees about C++, I can tell you that Schildt's C books
- are clear and readable descriptions of a language quite different from C.
-
- He is prone to erros subtle and gross, and it is quite clear that his books
- have had only the most nugatory proofreading; the 2nd edition of "C: The
- Complete Reference" uses "if(i<>1)" to compare i with 1. (Page 53, I
- believe.)
-
- The 3rd edition has about an error per page, on the average, and that's in a
- book that's been revised completely twice. I would be happy to mail people a
- small sample of the errors, including some of the more dangerous to new users.
-
- I cannot believe that his C++ books are any better; C++ is, by all accounts, a
- larger and more powerful language, with (no offense meant) much more complex
- semantics. Can someone who can't keep arrays and pointers straight, or
- understand about side effects, be expected to write a competent book on C++?

-
- [reset to include comp.lang.c, so I can see responses, and because this has
- some relevance.]
